MORTHE’s Press Release
Semarang – Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Mohamad Nasir tested the usage of Diesel Dual Fuel (DDF) Converter Kit which allows the solar diesel to be combined with gas fuel. The combination between solar diesel and gas fuel allows 30 Gross Ton (GT) vessels, freight trucks, and ankle trucks to save one third to one half of fuel costs compared to the ones using pure solar diesel.
“There is one device called a converter kit, the research has been produced and the innovation has been financed by MORTHE. How was the test results? If we use solar diesel, the usage would be 100 percent, but with this there would be about 35 percent of savings. These savings occur because we use LPG with the price of ten thousands Rupiah per kilogram,” said the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education on the Applied Testing ceremony of Diesel Dual Fuel (DDF) Converter Kit for 30 GT Vessels and beyond and other land transportations in Tanjung Mas Port, Semarang, last Sunday (29/9).
DDF Converter Kit is created by Abdul Hakim Pane collaborated with the Fishing Technology Development Center (BBPI) Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. This converter has been developed and financed by MORTHE since 2016. Minister Nasir hopes that this converter could be developed more than what it is right now, not only combining solar diesel with Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) which Indonesia is still importing from overseas, but also combining solar diesel with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) which could be produced by Masela Block and other gas blocks in Indonesia.
“I challenge the researchers, is it possible if we also use CNG to substitute the LPGs, because this compressed natural gas is locals, not imported, and the price is also cheaper, only IDR 3.500 per kilogram. If it is possible, we could reach 60 percent of savings,” said Minister Nasir.
With this technology, it is expected that the majority of ships and trucks could use the combination of solar diesel and gas, either it’s LPG, CNG, or LNG. Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education stated that his ministry will be coordinated with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to provide the supply chains of LPG, CNG, or LNG for the ships and trucks.
“No matter how great this technology is, if the gas is not available, it will be meaningless. We should really build the ecosystems well. If the ecosystems are unprepared, I doubt this project will succeed. The ecosystems for the gas fuels should be prepared,” said Minister Nasir.
In the same occasion, the inventor of this DDF Converter Kit, Abdul Hakim Pane explained his research about the usage of pure solar compared to the usage of solar combined with CNG for trucks.
“We measure it with jerry cans, with measuring tank, one liter of pure solar is worth seven kilometers of this ankle truck. With my device, one to seven could be one to thirteen. One liter could worth thirteen kilometers. The solar diesel should be lessen, combined with CNG or LNG, but LNG is not available in Indonesia yet, still rare,” said Abdul Hakim Pane after accompanying Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education to board the 30 GT ship owned by Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries which already uses his converter kit.
On that occasion, Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education directly observed the ankle truck machine with the converter kit and also board the 30 GT ship with the converter kit in Tanjung Mas Port, Semarang. Also attending the event are the Director General for Research and Development Strengthening Muhammad Dimyati, Secretary of Directorate General for Research and Development Strengthening Prakoso, Director of Technology Development for Industry Hotmatua Daulay, Regional Secretary of Central Java Sri Puryono, Acting Head of Fishing Technology Development Center (BBPI) Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Usman Effendi, Director of Fishing Vessels and Fishing Gears Gunaryo, and the Innovator of Diesel Dial Fuel (DDF) Converter Kit Abdul Hakim Pane.
The Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education also witnessed the MoU signing between PT. Cahya Gemilang Semesta as the company producing DDF Converter Kit with PT. Para Amartha LNG who also uses this converter kit.
