OVERVIEWanchor
One of ASEAN’s important agendas mandated by COSTI is to produce an ASEAN Innovation Roadmap which will become a reference not only for COSTI but also other ASEAN sector bodies in carrying out their duties and functions related to innovation issues in the 4th Industrial Revolution era. In order to fulfill this mandate, at the 76th COSTI Series of Meetings in Bali, Indonesia in 2019, the COSTI member countries have agreed and made a commitment to formulate steps to prepare ASEAN countries to face the challenges of the 4th IR and towards the 5th Industrial Community. These steps are carried out by identifying various indicators of common needs that must be prepared to face disruptive technology, identifying the science and technology sectors that are funded to answer these needs, and determining the division of tasks to countries that will become country coordinators for fields/sectors that have been identified based on their strengths and abilities, owned by each country. Each of these country coordinators will later compile a concept note that will serve as a reference for project follow-ups towards the preparation of the ASEAN Innovation Roadmap. Realization of the concept note can be done in the form of various collaboration programs such as knowledge sharing and knowledge transfer through training and expertise needed, joint research, transfer of technology, or cooperation that are judged to contribute to the preparation of the ASEAN Innovation Roadmap.
In the 76th COSTI meeting, as the host, Indonesia took its commitment and role to the importance of a country coordinator for the use of Artificial Intelligence technology in the fields of Agriculture, Cybersecurity, and Energy Efficiency. The National Secretariat of COSTI Indonesia has also carried out a follow-up process for drafting a concept note since 2019; and in 2020 this will be continued in the form of the implementation of the “ASEAN Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for the 4th Industrial Revolution”. This activity will be carried out by involving participants from each ASEAN member country guided by science and technology experts in the fields of Agriculture, Cyber Security, and Energy Efficiency as speakers. Considering the current situation, the implementation will be a combination of online and offline meetings (hybrid meetings).
THE OBJECTIVEanchor
The main objective of this activity is to stimulate and enhance the Workforce Readiness and Private Sector Engagement in Southeast Asia Nations through delivering comprehensive workshop programme for the participants at ASEAN Workshop on 4th Industrial Revolution.
